What Kind Of Church Is This?

There’s an old saying that captures our heart well: “In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love.”

We are a non-denominational church centered on the truth of Scripture and the lordship of Jesus. We seek unity around the essentials of the Christian faith while creating space for diversity, questions, and respectful differences in non-essential matters. While these statements reflect our core beliefs, they are not exhaustive.

“…that there is one true God, the creator and ruler of the universe, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” (Genesis 1:26-27; 3:22; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14).

” …that Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God, who died for our sins and arose from the dead.” (1 Corinthians 15:1-8; John 3:16; Hebrews 4:14-15; Acts 1:9-11; Titus 2:13)

“…that the Holy Spirit is at work in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ, and lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; 14:16-17; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; 5:18)

“…that the Bible is the inspired word of God. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living, and the final authority for all matters of faith. Written by God, through inspired men, for us to teach, train, and learn.” (2 Timothy 3:16; Psalm 119:105)

“…that every person has worth as a creation of God, but that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Leaving each and every person in need of a Savior.” (Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:7; Acts 4:12)

“…that salvation comes by God’s grace alone. Forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to all those who believe in God, repent of their sin, confess their sin before God, are baptized into Him, and in this receive the gift of God’s indwelling Holy Spirit.” (John 3:16; Romans 5:8-11; Ephesians 2:8-9, Acts 2:38, Romans 10:9-10; 6:1-7)

Heaven is the eternal home for the redeemed (John 14:1-6)
Hell is the eternal abode of all who reject Jesus (Matthew 25:46)

“…that the church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and exists to love people into a relationship with Jesus Christ and develop them into maturity in Him. The church is the people who make it up – not the building or place they go to.” (Ephesians 4:1-16)

“…that Jesus Christ will one day return to earth and will reign forevermore.” (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

The head of Jessamine is Jesus Christ. As a church, we seek to reflect his priorities in all we do and how we do it. No decision is ever made that would knowingly contradict any of Jesus’ teachings. Jessamine’s leadership is framed as an “elder-led, staff-driven” model.
